About

As a son of parents who both experienced their cancer journeys, Dr. Chao understands each individual's unique perspective and personal struggles with this illness.  His experience reinforces his oath as your physician to assist you on your path to wellbeing, and to treat you with compassion, respect, and dignity.

Dr. Kenneth Chao is a board certified Radiation Oncologist with over 14 years of experience in cancer care.  He earned an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at UCLA and Doctor of Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.  He completed his residency in Radiation Oncology at the William Beaumont Hospital, a pioneer institution in Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) and Brachytherapy, and was appointed Chief Resident in his final year. Dr. Chao then served on the faculty of New York University School of Medicine.  In 2008 Dr. Chao made his way back to California and has been serving the SF-Bay area community ever since.  Dr. Chao joined BASS Medical Group in 2021 as the Medical Director of Radiation Oncology and Medical Imaging at BASS Medical Group’s Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Dr. Chao is a recognized expert in prostate brachytherapy and advanced radiation therapy techniques including Stereotactic radiotherapy (SRS/SAbR), MR-Guided Radiation Therapy, Adaptive Radiation Therapy including SMART (Stereotactic MR-Guided ART), Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), IGRT, and Surface-Guided Radiation Therapy (SGRT).  He has authored or coauthored numerous peer-reviewed manuscripts and abstracts, and has been invited to present his scientific works at major national conferences. He is a recipient of the prestigious Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Research Grant and the Research Seed Grant from the American Medical Association (AMA) Foundation for his investigation in IGRT. Dr. Chao has also been awarded the Seattle Prostate Institute Brachytherapy Fellowship.

Outside of being a physician, Dr. Chao cherishes spending time with his wife, 2 young children, and 2 dogs.  He also enjoys inventing new ways to cook with the Instant Pot and Air Fryer, exploring the beautiful surroundings of Northern California, golf and swimming.
