Healthcare Professionals: The Heroes on the Frontlines

Local Bay Area Doctors and the Worldwide Pandemic: Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Walnut Creek, CA:

As the global pandemic of the coronavirus becomes national headlines, here in Walnut Creek, CA physicians and practitioners from BASS Medical Group are on the front lines of providing care in the communities they serve.

During times of crisis, we often forget who the real heroes are fighting the battles, in the case of COVID-19, it is healthcare professionals.  At BASS Medical Group, all our physicians are ready to help any and all patients in need, but in the particular case of COVID-19, the respiratory and infectious disease doctors are the ones at the forefront.

Dr. Kristina Kramer, Pulmonary and Critical Care Specialist, is providing around the clock care to critically ill Covid-19 patients at both John Muir Health facilities in Walnut Creek and Concord, along with Drs. Fred Nachtwey, Dr. Karin Cheung, Dr.Julian Zaka and Dr. Nathan who are supporting the county facilities in Contra Costa County. All facilities have seen an influx of patients who are being admitted for symptoms related to Covid-19. Dr. Kramer is the Medical Director of Critical Care at both John Muir hospitals and has been leading the efforts of Critical Care preparedness for providing the best care to patients who present with this infection.

All our infectious disease doctors with BASS Medical Group have also been working tirelessly during these stressful times. They are on the front line caring for patients in our hospitals as well as coordinating public health policies with Contra Costa County Public Health Department. Dr. Jorge Bernett, Medical Director of the Infectious Prevention Program, John Muir Medical Center, has been at the forefront with the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) on recommendations to reduce the risk for infections. With the numbers and information changing by the hour, it’s imperative that these doctors remain informed and current with the latest information. After long hours of seeing patients in the hospital and in their offices, they are also working around the clock to stay up to date with the new findings for this virus. The Infectious Disease Specialists: Dr. Jorge Bernett, Dr. Josh Perlroth, Dr.Konark Sharma, Dr. Bhavna Malik, Dr. Jennifer Cheng, Dr.Esther Molnar, have been on call throughout this state emergency, to round on patients who are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19.

We want to recognize and thank, not only these doctors, but all the providers; doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, technicians, medical assistants, and all medical personnel that are putting themselves at the forefront to help save lives. The best advice from them is to, shelter in place, stay home and use proper hand hygiene. If you come across a healthcare professional, don’t forget to thank them, they are the #RealHeroes.
