Moms, Don’t Forget to Care for Yourself This Mother’s Day

Happy Mother’s Day to all the women who lead with love. Whether you’re a mother, grandmother, caretaker, or nurturer in any form — you give so much of yourself every day. But even the strongest flowers need care.

This Women’s Health Month, we want to remind you: your health is just as important as everyone else’s. Taking time for checkups and preventive care isn’t selfish — it’s essential.

Why Women Often Put Themselves Last

Many women delay or skip doctor’s visits because they’re too busy caring for others — children, partners, aging parents, or their communities. But long-term health depends on consistent, proactive care.

You deserve:

  • Annual OB/GYN and primary care visits
  • Preventive screenings for breast, cervical, and bone health
  • Support for mental health, menopause, and chronic conditions
  • Time to talk about what’s changed in your body, even if it seems small

Essential Appointments to Put on Your Calendar

Here’s a quick checklist for common health needs by age or life stage:

  • Pap smear & pelvic exam (every 3–5 years, or as recommended)
  • Mammogram (starting at age 40 or earlier depending on risk)
  • DEXA scan for bone health (usually after menopause)
  • Blood pressure, cholesterol, and glucose screening
  • Mental health check-ins with your PCP

If it’s been more than a year since your last check-up, now’s the time.

Taking Care of Yourself Sets an Example

When you prioritize your own health, you set a powerful example for the next generation. Daughters, granddaughters, and loved ones learn that wellness is strength, and that preventive care is a form of self-respect.
