Bariatric Surgery

Surgery for weight loss, also known as bariatric surgery, is the most effective means of permanent weight loss. Most patients who struggle with weight are able to lose weight with dieting, but unfortunately, almost all of these patients end up regaining the weight and, in fact, most end up even heavier than they were before they started dieting. Bariatric surgery is a highly effective tool to assist patients in their goal to lose a significant amount of weight and regain their health. Just as important, bariatric surgery helps them keep the weight off permanently.

Changing lives through weight loss surgery

Our bariatric surgeons at BASS Medical Group have been performing bariatric surgery since 2002. They have performed almost 900 operations and our patients have had excellent results.  Our patients have lost more weight than the national average and our complication rate is significantly lower. Our surgeons’ experience, teamwork, and attention to detail have helped to ensure successful outcomes for our patients.

Currently, our two bariatric surgeons performing weight loss surgery are Dr. Brian Chin and Dr. Jason Moy. Both are expert laparoscopic surgeons with fellowship training in bariatric surgery and all aspects of advanced minimally invasive surgery. They both dedicate a significant portion of their practices to bariatric surgery to ensure they maintain the highest skill level in bariatrics and stay abreast of the latest developments in the field. At the same time, they maintain an interest and practice in the full range of minimally invasive surgery, to ensure their skills remain well-rounded and broad.

They are dedicated to a safe and successful outcome for you, by performing technically excellent operations, and by paying careful attention to your specific needs and care throughout the entire process.  Our surgeons conduct a detailed, multi-discipinary preoperative evaluation on all patients considering weight loss surgery.  They will see you postoperatively on a regular basis for the first year after bariatric surgery, and every year for life.  We want to make sure you continue to do well for the long term, and we want to share in your success by seeing how well you are doing!

Helping you achieve your healthy weight

Our surgeons offer all of the standard operations currently being performed for weight loss, including:

  • Major surgical procedures such as coronary revascularization and valve replacements, vascular surgery, neurosurgery, neuro-interventional procedures, and extensive spine repairs
  • Laparoscopic roux-en-Y gastric bypass
  • Laparoscopic vertical gastrectomy (sleeve gastrectomy)
  • Laparoscopic adjustable gastric band
  • Laparoscopic duodenal switch

In certain situations, our surgeons may recommend one of these operations as the best option for you, but in most cases, the patient is able to choose which operation to have after discussing the options with one of our surgeons. We also perform revisional bariatric surgery on a case-by-case basis.
