VenaSeal Treatment: What Happens After a Vein Is Sealed?
October 19, 2023

If you are experiencing the effects of unsightly varicose veins, there are many treatment options out there for you. VenaSeal treatment is an advanced varicose vein treatment option that is minimally invasive and allows you to get back to daily activities quicker than other treatment options. When considering VenaSeal treatment, you may be wondering how it works and what happens after the procedure is over.

How Does VenaSeal work?

VenaSeal treatment is performed using a medical glue called cyanoacrylate. This innovative technique allows varicose veins to be removed without surgery or other highly invasive procedures.

VenaSeal treatment starts by treating the main saphenous vein in the thigh. This process is performed using a catheter and applying pressure to help the vein seal. The cyanoacrylate, which can be thought of as medical super glue,  is unrecognizable by the patient after the procedure and has no known long-term effects. The saphenous vein hardens and closes after being glued shut. The process is unique, as the vein is transformed into scar tissue and fades away into the rest of the body. The blood in the previous unhealthy varicose vein is redirected to healthier veins.

Because this simple process is non-invasive, a serious post-treatment plan is not required as with many other varicose vein treatments. Additional benefits of this procedure include low levels of discomfort, avoiding compression stockings, and no risk of damaging nerves.

Post-Treatment

After treatment, patients can resume daily activities fairly soon. This means you do not have to worry about being unavailable to your family or being absent from work. You also do not have to stop taking current medication, unless it interferes with treatment or your doctor advises you otherwise.

Discuss a post-treatment plan with your doctor. You will be advised to walk around after the procedure and should continue to do so every day. Avoid sitting or standing for long periods. After around two days, you will most likely be able to completely return to daily exercise.

As with any medical procedure, there is a risk, but the risks with VenaSeal are very low. You may need to apply ice for discomfort. Talk to your doctor if you have other concerns.
