Dr. Doberne always wanted to know how things worked, and since the end of elementary school wanted to be a doctor. He graduated from Caltech in physics with honors. He got a Master's degree in Environmental Health Sciences from the School of Public Health at UC Berkeley, and graduated from the School of Medicine at UCLA with an MD degree. He landed at Virginia Mason Hospital and the Mason Clinic in Seattle for internship and residency in Internal Medicine. He found he was pretty good at adjusting medications for patients with diabetes, and thought he could help the most people by helping people with diabetes to avoid complications. He headed off to an Endocrinology and Metabolism fellowship at Stanford Hospital/Palo Alto VA Hospital. He did research on the mysteries of type 2diabetes. He decided he would focus on quality care for his patients. He has practiced endocrinology and metabolism in an office based practice and on the Medical Staff of El Camino Hospital for nearly 40 years. He has developed special skills in thyroid ultrasound and biopsy, and helping patients tolerate and get the best adjustment of thyroid hormone treatment. He has treated many people with diabetes with a focus on preventing complications. He has treated many people with a diverse assortment of general endocrinology problems. He enjoys the multicultural environment of the Bay Area. He enjoys cooking, music, gardening, hiking, and nature.
