Dr. Brian Chin

Dr. Brian Chin has been practicing weight loss surgery (bariatric surgery) with Bass Medical Group since 2006.  During this time, he has helped hundreds of patients retake control of their lives by helping them to achieve and maintain a healthy weight, a goal which proves elusive for patients who have been struggling with obesity for many years, oftentimes for much or most of their lives. Dr. Brian Chin believes in a multidisciplinary approach to achieving significant and lasting weight loss, with close involvement of nutritionists, therapists, and other specialists as needed. Dr. Brian Chin finds the practice of bariatric surgery to be extremely gratifying, as it gives him the opportunity to profoundly and positively affect the lives of his patients.

Educational Background

Dr. Brian Chin was born and raised in the Bay Area. He graduated magna cum laude from Bowdoin College with a bachelor’s degree in physics and mathematics, and then earned a master’s degree in applied physics from Columbia University. He earned his medical degree at the University of Michigan Medical School, then completed his surgery residency at the University of California at San Diego, where he won the Department of Medicine’s Halasz Award for surgical consultation and the Department of Surgery’s Chairman’s Prize for teaching and service excellence. Additionally, he was chosen to serve as administrative chief resident in recognition of his leadership skills. Following residency, Dr. Brian Chin completed a fellowship in bariatric and advanced laparoscopic surgery at the University of California at San Francisco.

Meet our team

Natalie Alvarez

Natalie Alvarez is the medical assistant and bariatrics coordinator for Dr. Brian Chin. Natalie has been working in the healthcare field for two years. She started her career working for a Gastroenterology office in Antioch and soon after decided to complete her medical assisting certification. She decided to return to school because she likes the interaction with patients. Natalie decided to join the bariatrics program because she saw how rewarding it was to be part of the patient’s journey through weight loss. She understands how hard it is to reach your goal weight and to see the look on their face is priceless. When Natalie is not working she enjoys traveling to new countries and experiencing new cultures.

Annabel Salgado

Annabel started her healthcare career here at BASS Medical Group in 2015. She started off as one of the Call Center Representatives at 365 Lennon Lane. Quickly, she was motivated to do more, and that is when she transitioned to becoming a surgery scheduler. She works with 4 of our general surgeons, including our bariatric surgeon, Dr. Brian Chin.   Annabel enjoys working with patients and listening to their stories and background. She especially enjoys seeing the bariatric patients evolve through the process and see’s how differently their outlook on life becomes. When Annabel is not at work, she enjoys spending time with her family and working on cars with her dad.
