VenaSeal Treatment for Varicose Veins: What Is the Recovery Like?

VenaSeal is one of the most recent treatment options for patients suffering from varicose vein issues. For some, varicose veins are simply a cosmetic issue that does not require treatment. For others, they can be an ugly, painful, and debilitating problem. BASS Vein Center can evaluate your problem and offer a solution that will be best for your varicose vein treatment.

What Are Varicose Veins?

Arteries carry the blood away from the heart with the oxygen for the body. Veins carry the blood back to the heart to get reoxygenated. Varicose veins occur in the legs because they must carry the blood back over the longest distance. When you are on your feet a great deal or sitting for extended periods, you are more likely to develop varicose veins. Genetics also play a huge part in the likelihood of developing a venous problem. Other risk factors include being overweight, a smoker, a drinker, or having a poor diet. The sooner you consult a physician about your spider veins or varicose veins, the sooner you can address the situation.

What Are the Treatments for Varicose Veins?

There are several treatments available for varicose vein closure, depending on the level of damage that has occurred. The physicians at BASS Vein Center can evaluate your situation to see what varicose vein treatment is best for you. There are some simple solutions that you can try, but if your condition progresses you may need to seek more aggressive therapies. Some of the treatments available are:

  • Sclerotherapy
  • Laser Treatment
  • Catheter-Assisted Procedures
  • High Ligation or Vein Stripping
  • Ambulatory Phlebectomy
  • Endoscopic Vein Surgery

VenaSeal Vein Treatment

A newer and very exciting varicose vein treatment is the VenaSeal Vein Treatment. IT uses a medical glue that has been popular in a wide variety of specialties for several years. It has replaced sutures in emergency pediatric care and is also used in:

  • Eye procedures
  • Orthopedic and Neurosurgical surgeries
  • Heart Surgeries
  • Periodontal procedures
  • Cosmetics

There have been studies conducted in the treatment of varicose veins. According to one study by Medtronics, the 5-year vein closure success rate for VenaSeal is 94.6%. See other studies and information by Medtronics. The VenaSeal procedure is less invasive than other options and no anesthesia is necessary.

What Is the Recovery Like for the VenaSeal?

VenaSeal is minimally invasive and does not have any downtime for recovery. The physician injects the glue, which feels like a small needle prick, through a small catheter. It does not require anesthesia and the entire process only takes a few minutes. Only a Band-Aid is needed when the catheter is removed. You are required to take a 10-minute unassisted walk. If you can do this with no problem, you are discharged to go home.

After the procedure, you can resume normal duties immediately but should limit excessive standing or sitting. We recommend you walk each day for 10 to 15 minutes. You can resume normal exercise in 48 hours. We will recheck you in a few weeks and do an ultrasound to be sure everything looks great. For many, this has been their best varicose vein treatment.
